Many of our clients were granted an allocation for a '16 Spyder. And, truth be told, they thought they would sell it. But insteadthey're driving them. And that, truth be told, is because, essentially, they're in an open GT4 and Spyder owners understandhow much fun these Spyders are. And oh, well, the cost vs.value-received equation is hard to beat. You can buy a lot of things for roughly $100K, but we are wide opento discussion if there is anything in this same price point thatprovides similar feedback to the driver, that is sexier, that ismore fun to drive, that sounds as awesome as this engine/intakesound, and...perhaps even more important...that is this well built.Porsche knocked it out of the park bringing the Spyder back afterit five-year hiatus.Holding true to its heritage-with strong resemblances to the firstPorsche Spyder introduced in 1953, and still faithful to theoriginal Boxster's designer, Grant Larson and his RS60inspiration-it is expensive enough for a double take but so goodyou won't care. Because you are thrusted by the first generation991 Carrera S 3.8 liter engine in Porsche's lightest-weightplatform, and gifted with Turbo steering, 911 brakes, and blessedwith a six-speed manual.Pause here for a breath.Just like it's ancestry. But with more power and betteraerodynamicsThese even offered a PDK, which, as we recall, wasn't an option fora 550. Ohhh, but wouldn't that be interesting. Ohhh, but wouldn'tthat be an entirely different conversation. (Can you hear my LOLright now?)All this has culminated in Porsche's best Spyder to-date, and, inour humble eyes, Porsche's best tour option driver yet, all in linewith what a Porsche Spyder should be.The only owner (so far) of this Spyder took delivery new at ourlocal Durham, North Carolina dealer. In it, he traveled only 5,600miles in three years with a full body wrap from new to protect hisinvestment...and now yours. It presents in "like new" condition inside and out (you may feelfree to insert your choice of cheesy sales pitch lingo here). ThisSpyder comes complete with its Monroney window sticker, all itsservice records, two-count 'em, two-keys, books, and all the otherdo-dads Porsche throws in these days with new car purchases. Inother words, this is a killer optioned-out example.Yes, sure. Our friends and other 911 nuts might roll their eyes atthis. But, then again, you won't care because you'll likely beblasting past them in second gear while they're gasping into third. With that great naturally aspirated sound that we know is not thefuture, and a feeling of Porsche heritage and old-fashioned pride, this really is something to come test. And then to take home.
